THUNDER LAKE CLUB LTD: Thunder Lake Aquatic Plant Mgnt Plan Development

Purpose

The Thunder Lake Association will be updating and revise an initial lake plan done in 1994 along with an aquatic plant management plan to maintain native plant habitat as well as managing Eurasian milfoil in Thunder Lake. The long-term focus of the project is to protect the high quality of Thunder Lake and maintain water quality at Ecoregion values. The watershed land use condition will be evaluated and loading reduction strategies will be explored in order to assist with management programs. The scope of the project will include as follows: a. Characterizing existing water quality conditions and doing a watershed analysis using the WILMS model and the development of a nutrient budget using model simulations for Thunder Lake. b. Review past plant surveys and conduct a new plant survey using the transect method as in the past survey. c. Conduct a shoreline survey which will include evaluating current buffer strips and evaluate specific approaches to improve shoreline buffer resulting in a shoreland restoration and protection program. d. Prepare a comprehensive lake management plan which will include an aquatic plant management plan emphasizing Eurasian milfoil control alternatives. e. Set up an information and education program regarding the project and results. f. Inventory and evaluate the adequacy of institutional programs affecting the Thunder Lake water quality. g. Products and deliverables will include 6 copies of the final report along with a CD and hard copy for the Department, 50 copies of a 4 page lake magazine and 50 copies of a lake poster. The Department should be supplied a copy of each.
