COLUMBIA COUNTY: Lake Management Plan Dev- Swan Lake

Purpose

Columbia County Land & Water Conservation Department will develop a citizen-input based lake management plan for Swan Lake, Columbia County. Data collected includes near-shore fish survey, water chemistry sampling, and a shoreland health inventory. The planning team will compile sport fishery data, water quality data, and other historical information. They will also draft a slow-no-wake emergency ordinance to help protect shorelines during high water events. A sociological survey and numerous public meetings will invite public input, as well as serve as a venue to share results. The final report will be posted on the Columbia County LWCD website.

The Swan Lake Management planning process provided an opportunity to review information known about the health of the lake, identify existing or potential problems, and develop strategies to keep the lake and its fishery healthy. The development of this lake management plan (LMP) incorporated scientific knowledge, community perspectives, and rules and regulations.
