BEAVER DAM LAKE IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION: Habitat Recovery Beaver Dam Watershed

Purpose

BDLIA will conduct a variety of planning activities to add detail to their comprehensive lake management plan. 1. Focusing on the Beaver Creek subwatershed, they will conduct detailed surveys and analysis of the watershed, and investigate habitat enhancement on tributary streams. Deliverables include watershed assessment parameters, an implementation schedule, and a social survey (see application for details). 2. Assess feasibility of constructing wave barrier island to reduce fetch on the lake by creating a model to compare design options. Deliverables include design criteria and cost estimates for future decision making. 3. Monitor water quality and flow at three major tributaries to determine nutrient loading. Results will be compared with WILMs estimates. This will results in identification of legacy impact of previously applied materials to the subwatersheds, possible measures to reduce algae blooms, and a nutrient management plan. 4. Survey and design for a rough fish barrier at Rakes Bay, to be used as a plan for installation. This carp barrier will improve the water quality and aquatic plant community in the bay. For complete details of these activities and deliverables, see the project application. Results of this project will be shared with stakeholders via website, newsletter, meetings, and media releases, in addition to special stakeholder meetings.
