LAC VIEUX DESERT LAKE ASSOCIATION, INC: Lac Vieux Desert Lake ASI Plan Project

Purpose

Lac Vieux Desert Lake Association is sponsoring an grant to study Lac Vieux Desert Lake, in Vilas County. The project will focus on updating a Lake Management Plan (LMP). Project activities include: 1) Stakeholder participation through planning meetings (2-4); 2) Water quality sampling and analysis; 3) Early season AIS survey, wild rice mapping and mid-late season AIS survey; 4) AIS prevention and education activities; 5) Watershed assessment; 6) Shoreland and Coarse Woody Habitat assessment; 6) Collect and synthesize existing lake data; 7) Aquatic plant surveys (PI survey, community mapping and substrate mapping); 8) Data analysis; 9) Develop LMP. Project deliverables include: 1) Water chemistry data; 2) Watershed maps and modeling ; 3) data; 4) PI, shoreland and woody habitat data; 5) Aquatic plant community and AIS maps; 6) Aquatic plant vouchers; 7) LMP. Specific conditions for this project: Draft of LMP needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of LMP, data from PI survey, shoreland assessment, woody habitat assessment, watershed assessment and water quality sampling, all maps from project, all GIS data, and aquatic plant vouchers.

Reports and Documents
The purpose of this project is to update data relevant to aquatic plant management, including updates to water quality, aquatic plants, aquatic invasive species (AIS), and their management. Likewise, this plan seeks to meet NR 198.43 requirements, allowing the Lac Vieux Desert Lake Association (LVDLA) to be eligible for further Wisconsin DNR Surface Water Grants. The existing plan will continue to function as the main planning document, while updates would accompany the existing plan as an addendum.

The Lac Vieux Desert Lake Association solicited the services of Many Waters, LLC to use Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting (DASH) to manage for Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM) on Lac Vieux Desert, located in Vilas County Wisconsin and Gogebic County Michigan. DASH is a mechanical process and requires a mechanical harvesting permit (Form 3200-113 (R 3/04)) from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR). 2018 WDNR Permit ID number is NO-2018-64-0154M.

The Lac Vieux Desert Lake Association (LVDLA) solicited the services of Many Waters, LLC to utilize their Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting (DASH) system to manage for Eurasian watermilfoil (EWM) on Lac Vieux Desert (LVD), located approximately four miles east of Land O lakes, WI. DASH is a mechanical process and requires a mechanical harvesting permit (Form 3200-113 (R 3/04)) from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR). In July of 2014, Many Waters, LLC on the behalf of the LVDLA received a Mechanical Harvesting Permit from the WDNR to use DASH (Permit ID # MNOR-64-14-04, WBIC: 1631900).
