TOWN OF MANITOWISH WATERS: Dead Pike Lake Management Implementation Planning

Purpose

The Town of Manitowish Waters is sponsoring a Lake Planning grant to fund a project to further assess Dead Pike Lake, in Vilas County. Project activities include: 1) Water levels and conceptual design; 2) Water quality monitoring and modeling; 3) Ditch fieldwork and conceptual design; 4) Groundwater monitoring and conceptual design; 5) Critical habitat assessment; 6) Develop final report. Project deliverables include: Final report. Specific conditions for this project: Final report needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of final report, all maps, data and GIS from project.

The Dead Pike Lake management plan was developed through a partnership with the Dead Pike Lake Association (DPLA), the Town of Manitowish Waters (Town) and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR). The plan sets water quality goals for removing the lake from the State list of impaired waters for phosphorus, and reducing iron and manganese loading to reduce harmful environmental conditions and improve lake recreational uses.
