Purpose
The Town of St. Germain is sponsoring an Aquatic Invasive Species Education, Prevention, & Planning grant to be completed by December 31, 2007. The project will focus on preventing AIS introductions into town lakes, increasing public awareness of AIS and monitoring for AIS.
Project activities include:
1) Recruit volunteers and implement a Clean Boat/Clean Water program at town landings
2) Hire a one day a week employee through contractual agreement with North Lakeland Discovery Center. Employee will display town boat and hand out literature during the mornings and conduct CB/CW trainings during the afternoons of the St. Germain weekly flea market
3) Conduct AIS citizen lake monitoring following Dept/UW Ext guidelines
4) Entry of inspection forms 3200-120 and monitoring forms onto Dept website
5) Develop AIS awareness materials (windshield cards, grocery bags, bait container labels, placemats, and other AIS hand-out literature)
Project deliverables include:
1) Completed entry of inspection 3200-120 and citizen lake monitoring forms onto Dept website
2) AIS materials: windshield cards, grocery bags, bait container labels, placemats, and other AIS literature
3) Final report (contents listed on page 6 of proposal)
Specific Conditions for this project:
- Final report needs Dept review and approval
WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of final report, sample of windshield card, grocery bag, bait container label, and placemat.
