PORTAGE COUNTY LCD: LCO-Portage Lakes Class 1

Purpose

The Portage Co. Land Conservation Dept. proposes to conduct a series of studies to help shape the management of 28 Portage County lakes, and to help local planners in the development of land use regulations in the vicinity of these lakes. Major project elements to include: 1) Citizen surveys, 2) Planning meetings, 3) I&E, including web-based reports and access to data, 4) Development of a menu of management options, 5) Baseline Land-use Inventory, 6) Calculation of build-out impacts based on existing regulatory framework, 7) Development of guide for local planners.

The purpose of this management plan is to provide guidance to protect current good conditions, address existing problems and prevent future problems that may be detrimental to the McDill Pond ecosystem. This management plan was written as part of the second phase of the Portage County Lakes Project. The first phase of the Portage County Lakes Study involved data collection from McDill Pond and 28 other lakes throughout the county. The study provided information on water quality, shoreline development, amphibian habitat, fisheries, aquatic plants, and other parameters.
In 2007, the Tree Lake Association partnered with UW-Stevens Point to develop a lake management plan. The purpose of this plan was to learn about Tree Lake, identify factors important to Tree Lake residents & users, and develop goals, objectives, and associated actions to protect and improve the lake. The Tree Lake Management Planning Team consisted of Tree Lake Association members that were assisted by Portage County staff including the County Conservationist and Parks Director, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Lake Management and Fisheries staff, and staff from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Center for Watershed Science and Education. A survey was sent to Association members to obtain their opinions about Tree Lake. Survey results were used throughout the planning process.

This management plan was written as part of the second phase of the Portage County Lakes Project. The first phase of the Portage County Lakes Study involved data collection from Adams, Bear, Thomas and 26 other lakes throughout the county. The study provided information on water quality, shoreline development, amphibian habitat, fisheries, aquatic plants, and other parameters.
The purpose of this management plan is to provide guidance to protect current good conditions, address existing problems and prevent future problems that may be detrimental to the Rinehart Lake ecosystem. This management plan was written as part of the second phase of the Portage County Lakes Project. The first phase of the Portage County Lakes Study involved data collection from Rinehart Lake and 28 other lakes throughout the county. The study provided information on water quality, shoreline development, amphibian habitat, fisheries, aquatic plants, and other parameters. The overall goal for the Rinehart Lake Management Plan is to sustainably manage Rinehart Lake to maintain the healthy ecosystems in and near the lake, while involving all land owners and lake users in the area.
