Purpose

Iron County proposes to expand the water quality monitoring programs through Woods and Waters and Citizen Based Monitoring Programs. The dissolved oxygen meter will be purchased. The meter will be used to gather accurate data from selected lakes by the students and lake residents. The project includes the following goals: 1) Accurately monitor water quality data of lakes and streams throughout Iron County; 2) Ensure water quality data taken is reported in SWIMS and make available to the public and DNR. Project deliverables include: 1) Proof that the meter was purchased; 2) Summary of how meter was used, lakes monitored and organizations involved; 3) Summary of success using the meter as an educational tool. Specific conditions for this Project: The information collected by the students and citizens should be entered into the department database (SWIMS).
