LONG LAKE OF PHELPS LAKE DISTRICT: Long Lake of Phelps Lake District AIS Control Grant Stage Two

Purpose

Long Lake District is sponsoring a project that will focus on EWM management, AIS education, prevention and monitoring. The goal is to reduce the treatable EWM to less than 10 acres, which will allow the Long Lake District to continue management of AIS with minimal state assistance. This project was partially funded under grant ACEI-031-08 and this grant is a continuation of the same project. Project activities include: 1) Annual chemical treatments and manual removal of EWM; 2) Annual pre/post treatment monitoring and analysis; 3) Annual volunteer AIS monitoring; 4) Install innovative signage at boat landing; 5) Implement a CB/CW program using volunteers and a paid inspector; 6) Entry of inspection and monitoring forms onto Dept website; 7) Point-intercept (PI) aquatic plant survey and community mapping; 8) Develop annual project report and an updated APM plan. Project deliverables include: 1) Chemical and manual removal control of EWM; 2) Pre/post treatment, PI survey and community mapping data; 3) Innovative signage and 200 hours of annual inspection time; 4) Completed entry of inspection and monitoring forms onto Dept website; 5) AIS educational, prevention and monitoring activities; 6) Annual reports and an updated APM plan summarizing EWM management during project, future EWM management direction, CB/CW activities, AIS monitoring and AIS educational activities. Specific Conditions for this project: Updated APM plan needs Dept review and approval WDNR Lake Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of updated APM plan, all annual reports, all maps, all GIS, survey data (pre/post treatment and PI), and samples of educational and outreach products.
