TROUT UNLIMITED INC: Wilson Creek Aquatic Organism Passage Phase 2 Implementation

Purpose
Trout Unlimited is sponsoring a culvert replacement project is to restore Aquatic Organism Passage at two road stream crossings on Wilson Creek at County Hwy P to reconnect over 3 miles of Class 1 trout stream. Project final deliverables include: 1) Successful installation of 2 road-stream crossings sized to match reference reach bankfull widths and set below the stream bed to eliminate aquatic organism passage barriers. 2) All data from pre/post assessments of the crossings listed in activities including photos. 3) Annual report on grant progress and status. 4) Final report summarizing pre/post monitoring, pre/post photos, and final results. Specific project activities include: 1) Pre and post construction monitoring including AOP rating, water velocity, water depth, silt depth, and substrate type resulting from installation. Project success will be evaluated by comparing pre- and post-construction fish passage scores, water velocity, flow characteristics, and riverbed composition at the new structures. An updated Great Lakes Road Stream Crossing Inventory Method assessment will also be completed after construction. 2) Work with partners to install the new crossings. 3) On-site work including excavating road material, existing culvert removal and disposal, purchase of new structures, pumping and rerouting of water, installation of new structures and reconstructing the new roadbed and surface. 4) All promotion of this project will reference the DNR's role and support with this project. Special Conditions: All necessary permits will be obtained prior to starting work. WDNR will be provided electronic and hard copies of all data and reports generated from this project. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Stream Biologist.
