CALUMET COUNTY: RR - Sohrweide Phase III Stony Brook Restoration

Purpose

Calumet County Land and Water Conservation Department is sponsoring a project to build upon Phase 1 and 2 of the Stony Brook restoration effort with additional work downstream from the earlier work to install buffers, enhance fish habitat, and meander and restore a channelized stream corridor, and ultimately provide stream connectivity and fish movement throughout Stony Brook. Specific project activities include: 1) Restore a channelized section of Stony Brook by adding meanders and reshaping banks, install lunker structures and logs, add riffles and pools, and establish native buffer along the stream corridor; 2) Build on current community engagement efforts and expand the Trout in the Classroom experience by engaging students in the habitat restoration efforts and increase awareness of land use impacts on water quality. Continue to engage riparian landowners and the public through news releases, social media, direct mailing, signage, and one-on-one outreach 3) All design plans and final report summarizing the project; 4) Copy of the recorded contract between grantee and property owner. Special Conditions: 1) Prior to construction, Calumet County will obtain all requisite landowner access and permits as required from WDNR, the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACOE), Calumet County, and other regulatory agencies or municipalities. This scope summarizes the project detail provided in the application and does not negate tasks/deliverables described therein. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps, and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional Stream Biologist.
