VILAS COUNTY: PREV - Vilas County 2024 Prohibited & Priority Species Prevention & Monitoring Project

Purpose

The Vilas County Land & Water Conservation Department is sponsoring a project to target recreational boater pathway to prevent and monitoring for prohibited & local priority aquatic and wetland invasive species. Activities: 1) Offer hot water pressure boat decontamination to boaters at Big Muskellunge, Plum, Star, and Trout Lakes 2) Spiny Waterflea sampling on 12+ lakes 3) Increase resident and visitor awareness of spiny water fleas 4) Development of flyers on decontamination program 5) Monitor for non-native Phragmites 6) Partner with Wisconsin Headwaters Invasive Species Partnership to post billboard 7) Perform CBCW inspections Deliverables: 1) Report developed on decontamination unit impacts 2) Lab results reported to DNR 3) Log number of attendees, number of videos accessed, number of comments on social media posts. 4) Number of flyers disseminated 5) Number of new phragmites sites detected 6) Photo of billboard displayed 7) Data entered into SWIMS Conditions: 1) Enter data collected into SWIMS database under the grant project number. 2) All monitoring shall follow WDNR protocols. 3) All outreach and education materials shall use DNR messaging; DNR AIS biologist review and approval is required before dissemination. 4) Notify DNR AIS Biologist of any new detection of an AIS species. 5) Lab analysis will be completed by Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene This scope summarizes details provided in the application and does not negate tasks and/or deliverables described therein.
