VILLAGE OF THIENSVILLE: RES - The Restoration of Pigeon Creek, A Tributary to the Milwaukee River

Purpose

The Village of Thiensville is sponsoring a project to improve 2,120 LF of creek geomorphology and fluvial dynamics, stabilize 2,000 LF of streambank, restore one-acre of floodplain hydrology, improve 1.5 acres of critical wetland habitat, and construct a walking trail within the four-acre Pigeon Creek project area. Activities: 1) Using appropriate NRCS restoration practices and meeting DNR GP-15 and GP-24 permits, complete final design and obtain required local, state, and federal permits. 2) Increase channel sinuosity, improve floodplain hydrology, and stabilize the streambanks of the creek throughout the project area 3) Create or install meaders, pools, rifle installations and brush toe structures within the Creek. Deliverables: 1) Regulatory permits and supporting information. 2) Construct/restore 2000 feet of stream channel. 3) Restore disturbed areas through native seeding and tree shrub planting. 4) Submit Final Report summarizing activites conducted under this grant. Include TSS and TP reduction calculations. Conditions: 1) Final design shall follow NRCS design standards. 2) Provide to the Department in electronic form a Final Report, being a written summary and providing supporting information, including before and after photos, regarding deliverables and outcomes as described in Application. It is recommend that a draft be shared with the Department prior to final submittal. 3) Enter into land use agreements containing a 10-year operation and maintenance plan for activities conducted on properties not owned by the Grantee and provide copy of these agreements recorded at the County Register of Deeds office prior to requesting final reimbursement. Data, reports, surveys, and supporting information, including photos, maps and GIS data, must be submitted to the DNR Biologist in electronic format and in any other format they specify.
