CALUMET COUNTY: Blonien Streambank Protection

Purpose

The Calumet County Land and Water Conservation Department is sponsoring a project to stabilize a 920-linear foot portion of an unnamed tributary to Lake Winnebago by installing structural practices at curves in the creek that receive the highest stress loading during runoff events. Straight line areas will be graded to reduce vulnerability to shear stress and reintroduce beneficial native plants. In addition, the project proposes to create a flood storage bench that will allow for short term storage from large runoff events. Activities: 1) Stabilize 5 stream bends 2) Recreate a floodplain bench for short term storage 3) Grade existing streambanks to reduce erosion potential and better connect floodplain Deliverables: 1) Photo document the pre-existing and post-restoration conditions of all project areas Conditions: 1) Send map of critical planting areas and completed final designs to Water Quality Biologist, David Bolha, prior to construction 2) Use native seed mix for revegetating 3) A progress report included with each reimbursement request 4) With each reimbursement request grantee must provide: a list of practices to reduce nonpoint source pollution installed since during the period for which you are seeking reimbursement and a 1-2 paragraph description of project status 5) Enter into land use agreement containing a 10-year operation and maintenance plan for activities conducted on properties not owned by the Grantee and provide copy of these agreements recorded at the Register of Deeds office prior to requesting final reimbursement 6) Designs follow NRCS standards This scope summarizes details provided in the application and does not negate tasks and/or deliverables described therein. Data, reports, surveys, and supporting information, including photos, maps and GIS data, must be submitted to the DNR Biologist in electronic format and in any other format they specify.
