SPECTACLE LAKE PROTECTION & REHAB DIST: Spectacle Lake Stewardship Program, Phase 1

Purpose

Spectacle Lake P&R District is sponsoring phased large scale lake planning project to study Spectacle Lake, in Vilas County. The project will focus on developing a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for Spectacle Lake. Phases 1 and 2 were funded with the Feb 1, 2011 grant cycle and Phase 3 will be submitted for funding consideration with the Aug 1, 2011 grant cycle. Phase 1 project activities include: 1) Gather and assess existing Spectacle Lake info; 2) Point-intercept (PI) aquatic plant survey, community and substrate mapping and analysis; 3) Watershed assessment and water quality sampling; 4) Initiate volunteer frog and toad monitoring and angler\2019s journal program; 5) Educational program \2013 meetings, newsletter articles, and press releases; 6) Conduct watercraft inspections and data entry into SWIMS. Project deliverables include: 1) PI, water quality and watershed data; 2) Aquatic plant community and substrate maps; 3) Aquatic plant vouchers; 4) Frog and toad and angler\2019s journal data; 5) Education materials; 6) Entered inspection data. Specific conditions for this project: Project summaries and reports need Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of reports, PI, water quality, watershed, frog and toad, and angler data, a set of aquatic plant vouchers, all maps from project, and all GIS data.
