PORTERS LAKE MANAGEMENT DISTRICT: Porter's Lake Monitoring & Prev.

Purpose

Porters Lake Management District proposes to conduct education, prevention and planning activities to control and prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) into Porters Lake during the period of 2011-2013. The project elements and deliverables are specified in Porters Lake Aquatic Invasive Species Grant application, dated 7/24/11. The project incluldes the following: monitoring, education, shoreline restoration and boat landing modifications. The Porters Lake group will participate in the Fourth of July Landing Blitz, install new State AIS signs, provide garbage cans and a boat wash at their landing. Monitoring will be conducted by SCUBA surveys and by trained lakes people. 200 hours of CBCW will be conducted per year. Watercraft inspection and Citizen Lake Monitoring records will be entered into the State's online Watercraft Inspection Database (SWIMS). Porters Lake group will continue their biocontrol efforts to control purple loostrife around the lake and start working on shoreline restoration as outlined in their deliverables. This grant project will also develop an updated lake management plan. Any publications or signs produced as part of this project will incorporate the "Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers" brand. Annual progress reports and a final report summarizing the two-year project will be provided to DNR. If a consultant is to provide the final report, is is recommended the Grantee provide the DNR AIS Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR to receive both paper and electronic.pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee's final payment request.
