La Crosse 303d Lakes Monitoring

Purpose

La Crosse proposes to monitor one lake (impoundment) in 2012 that is currently on the 303d list. Data collection will include collecting Total Phosphorus (TP) and Chlorophyll a (Chl a) samples and documenting the vertical dissolved oxygen and temperature profiles. The monitoring activites are proposed for Lake Neshonoc located in La Crosse County. Lake Neshonoc is currently on the 303d waters list for the following impairments: PCBs and mercury in fish tissue and eutrophication from TP and sediment.

Objective

This project supports the impaired waters project category. Monitoring on this existing 303d water will validate and improve the existing listing. Lake Neshonoc (1653500) in La Crosse County is currently on the impaired waters list. Lake sampling and profile data will be collected on three occasions at one site on Lake Neshonoc. Sampling will take place during the 2012 field season following the dates outlined in the WisCALM guidance for lake impairment assessment.

Outcome

TP and Chl a samples and vertical dissolved oxygen and temperature profiles will be collected on three occasions at one site on Lake Neshonoc. Lake Neshonoc is lacking recent information.
