Tyler Forks TWA 2013 (A) Kleist (Project 1)

Purpose

This project involves collection of biological information (fish and macroinvertebrates) and quantitative habitat and temperature in the Tyler Forks River Watershed and part of the Upper Bad River Watershed. Water chemistry samples will be collected on the Tyler Forks River and on single sites on Bull Gus Creek, Javorsky Creek, Devils Creek. This project involves cotinuing USGS gaging station on Tyler Forks River at Stricker Road. This work is conducted to provide background ambient condition data and to evaluate watershed and waterbody condition prior to possible land use change associated with permitted activities.

Objective

This monitoring project of waters is designed to update waterbody assessment status information (i.e. future monitoring for 303(d) or ERW/ORW status), for identifying appropriate management recommendations and for updating waterbody and watershed narratives in WATERS, and finally for use in watershed planning. The project involves collecting background water quality information within the watershed and the adjacent watershed with a known iron ore deposits. The monitoring stations were determined after field reconnaisance.

Outcome

One outcome would be possible future monitoring for impaired waters 303(d) or protection work through ERW/ORW designations. The information can be used to make management recommendations, to update waterbody and watershed narratives in WATERS, and for use in watershed planning. A Watershed Plan was developed in 2013 based on data from this study. DRAFT Tyler Forks (LS13) Watershed Plan

Study Design

This project involves collection of biological information (fish and macroinvertebrates) and quantitative habitat and temperature on fourteen (14) sites (to be identified) in the Tyler Forks River Watershed and part of the Upper Bad River Watershed. Up to six (6) more sites (for a total of 20 sites) may be added to the project depending on field conditions and site access. Temperature data was collected on an additional nine (9) sites. Additional temperature sites may be added depending on field conditions for a total of approximatley 30 sites. Four (4) water chemistry samples will be collected at 6 locations, three sites on the Tyler Forks River, and single sites on Bull Gus Creek, Javorsky Creek, Devils Creek. This project involves cotinuing USGS gaging station on Tyler Forks River at Stricker Road.
