Overview
White Lake, in the Wolf River - Langlade and Evergreen Rive Watershed, is a 153.37 acre lake that falls in Langlade County. This lake is managed for fishing and swimming and is currently not considered impaired.

Historical Description
Source: 1977, Surface Water Resources of Langlade County White Lake T-31-N, R-14-E, Sec. 17, Surface Acres = 165.9, Maximum Depth = 42 feet, Secchi Disk = 23 feet.
A hard water spring lake having alkaline, clear water of very high transparency. The immediate shoreline is predominantly upland (70%) of hardwoods and cleared land with the remainder being wetland (30%), of bog, conifer, and marsh. The littoral materials are composed of muck (50%), sand (40%), gravel (8%), and rubble (2%). Fish species inhabiting this lake include northern pike, largemouth bass, brook trout, perch, bluegill, black crappie, pumpkinseed, black bullhead, white sucker, common shiner and golden shiner. Submergent aquatic vegetation ismoderate, while floating and emergent types are sparse. The outlet, White Lake Creek, flows to the Wolf River. A water control structure having a 2 foot head is located at the outlet. Developments on the shoreline include 19 dwellings, one resort, a sawmill, and a swimming beach. A private campground is located on the shore. Public access has been provided. Of the 3.09 miles of shoreline, 0.01 mile is public frontage. Conditional public access is possible across private forest cropland.

General Condition
White Lake (365500) was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus and chlorophyll sample data were clearly below 2016 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use. This water is meeting these designated uses and is not considered impaired.

Wisconsin has over 84,000 miles of streams, 15,000 lakes and milllions of acres of wetlands. Assessing the condition of this vast amount of water is challenging. The state's water monitoring program uses a media-based, cross-program approach to analyze water condition. An updated monitoring strategy (2015-2020) is now available. Management Goals
Wisconsin's Water Quality Standards provide qualitative and quantitative goals for waters that are protective of Fishable, Swimmable conditions [Learn more]. Waters that do not meet water quality standards are considered impaired and restoration actions are planned and carried out until the water is once again fishable and swimmable
Management goals can include creation or implementation of a Total Maximum Daily Load analysis, a Nine Key Element Plan, or other restoration work, education and outreach and more. If specific recommendations exist for this water, they will be displayed below online.
Monitoring
Monitoring the condition of a river, stream, or lake includes gathering physical, chemical, biological, and habitat data. Comprehensive studies often gather all these parameters in great detail, while lighter assessment events will involve sampling physical, chemical and biological data such as macroinvertebrates. Aquatic macroinvertebrates and fish communities integrate watershed or catchment condition, providing great insight into overall ecosystem health. Chemical and habitat parameters tell researchers more about human induced problems including contaminated runoff, point source dischargers, or habitat issues that foster or limit the potential of aquatic communities to thrive in a given area.
