Lakes Grant
Small Scale Lake Planning
SPL-119-06A
2006
Complete
The 2006 Fox Lake Interim Aquatic Plant Management Plan is a short-term plan being developed to guide aquatic plant management activities in 2006. A long-term 2007 plan will be developed at the conclusion of the 2006 plan development. The purposes of the 2006 Fox Lake Interim Aquatic Plant Management Plan are to promote a healthy and diverse aquatic plant community, facilitate recreational lake use, and educate local residents on the benefits of maintaining a healthy aquatic plant community. This includes the challenges of managing a shallow eutrophic lake and maintaining a clear water macrophyte dominated state (versus turbid algal dominated state), maintaining habitat areas for fish, wildlife, and zooplankton, and developing strategies to address the management of Eurasian watermilfoil. Recreational use concerns must address an overabundance of plants in many shallow areas of the lake, algae blooms, and weeds being washed to shorelines that may require management to facilitate access for many lake residents.

Grant Awarded
This small scale grant is to create an interim APM plan for immediate use in Fox Lake for 2006. Existing data of areas that supported nuisance plants in 2005 will be compiled, along with resource summary. A plant committee has already been formed to review management tools, gather public input at a public meeting, and make management recommendations to the Lake District. After approval, the interim APM plan will be submitted as a final report to DNR by December 31, 2006.
