Oconto County proposes to continue their work on developing a model zoning classification for lakes and streams by presenting the proposal to the public along with proposed zoning changes and hopefully result in the County Board passing zoning ordinance changes to reflect the finalized lake classification model. This grant will help in funding educational tools to assist the county population and officials to understand the proposed lake classification model zoning scheme. Project products and deliverables will include the following: 1. Creating an educational document for the public about shoreland ordinances, water classification and recommended management options. Also develop materials and displays for public educational meetings. 2. Advertise through radio, newspaper, public mailings and County website scheduled public meetings to receive public comments on the proposed recommended classification model and shoreline management options along with using these avenues to educate the public. 3. Hold four citizen advisory meetings from October 2005 through January 2005 which will also be forum for one educational presentation per month to various groups such as the county lake associations. The County Board will also be targeted for educating through materials and a special meetings. 4. Draft ordinance language to reflect the public comment and citizen advisory committee decisions. 5. Hold a public hearing and present ordinance change recommendations to Oconto County Board of Supervisors for decision on passage. 6. Finally, a shoreland educational document will be created, highlighting shoreland ordinance changes(in plain language) and explain appropriate best management practices A final report will be submitted to the deparatment detailing their accomplishments.
