BURNETT COUNTY: LMI-Burnett Co Lake Restoration & Protection Program

Purpose

Burnett County will implement a county-wide project with the ultimate purpose being to restore and protect the maximum number of lakeshore buffer strips in Burnett County through an incentive based program. This program seeks to encourage riparians to restore buffer strips and to provide long term protection to these areas. To accomplish this protection a combination of actions would take place: technical assistance; restoration cost-share assistance; promotion and education; recognition activities; enrollment payments. The County will provide an annual tax credit to enrolled participants. All parcels enrolled and receiving a tax credit shall require a department approved deed restriction that permanently establishes the vegetative buffer on the parcel. Project deliverables for this project would include a final report listing all project accomplishments including the number of parcels or lots participating in the program. The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of all project products and periodic reports on the progress of the project. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), or public meeting(s), and/or local newspaper article(s).
