BURNETT COUNTY LAND CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT: Burnett County Aquatic Invasive Species Education & Prevention

Purpose

The Burnett County Land & Water Conservation Department will conduct a three-year aquatic invasive species (AIS) project. Summer project positions will be hired to: monitor waters for the presence of AIS, monitor public access points in accordance with the Wisconsin "Clean Boats, Clean Waters" program, provide AIS public outreach & education, work with individuals and groups to provide AIS control/management work where possible, establish "rapid response" and "long-range planning" strategies for future management of AIS in the county. The project will also provide matched funding for aquatic plant surveys in waters newly identified as having one or more aquatic invasive species, or considered at high risk of infestation. At the completion of this project the sponsor shall furnish the state with a comprehensive report in both paper and electronic form including: 1. GIS maps showing locations of known aquatic invasive species in Burnett Co. 2. Aquatic plant survey results. 3. Bio-control release sights for purple loosestrife. 4. A list of lakes & public access points monitored as a part of this grant. 5. A summary of public outreach and education activities including dates and approximate numbers of people reachedand I&E materials produced. 6. A watercraft inspection summary including time spent and number of people reached. 7. A summary of CBCW survey results. 8. Proposed management strategies for prevention and control of AIS adopted by the county. *In addition, all "Clean Boats, Clean Waters" program activities including watercraft inspection hours, boat landing survey results, personal contacts and trained citizen inspectors, will be reported on an annual basis in accordance with CBCW guidelines.
