Hillsboro Priority PWS Plan - Nine Key Element Plan

Purpose

The Hillsboro Priority Watershed Project plan assesses the nonpoint sources of pollution in the Hillsboro Watershed and guides the implementation of nonpoint source control measures. These control measures are needed to meet specific water resource objectives for the Hillsboro Watershed. The purpose of this project is to reduce the amount of pollutants originating from nonpoint sources that reach surface water and groundwater within the Hillsboro Priority Watershed Project area.

Objective

The primary objective of the project is to reduce nonpoint source pollution loads to Field Veterens Memorial Lake to enhance and protect the water quality of the West Branch Baraboo River, the South Branch Baraboo River, Beaver Creek and Field Veterens Memorial Lake (Hillsboro Lake) in Hillsboro.

Outcome

The planning phase of the project began in 1991 and included the following information gathering and evaluation steps: 1) determine conditions and uses of groundwater, Field Veterans Memorial Lake and its tributary streams 2) inventory types of land use and severity of nonpoint sources impacting streams, lakes and groundwater 3) evaluate types and severity of other factors affecting water quality 4) determine levels of nonpoint source pollution control and measures necessary to improve and/or protect water quality 5) prepare and gain approval for a PWS plan
