Report on nearshore fish electroshocking surveys on Lakes Mendota and Monona on July 2017. Both lakes had low numbers of native species of minnows and darters, potentially due to a lack of shoals along the shorelines.
Raw data from electroshocking fish surveys on Lakes Monona and Mendota, including historical comparisons to 1970s and 2004 data
Grant Awarded
Dane County will survey sensitive, nearshore fish populations to evaluate their status in Lake Mendota, and factors that may be affecting species diversity. Nongame and juvenile stage sportfish will be surveyed using a towed electroshocker at about 20 nearshore sites. Habitat features will be documented. Deliverables include fish community and habitat data, and a final report that includes baseline raw data for comparison to future surveys, and an assessment of likely environmental factors that influence these species. The final report will be shared with key lake partners including DNR, City of Madison, City of Monona, Clean Lakes Alliance and Yahara Fish Club.
