City Of Madison: Acq-Cherokee Marsh Expansion - Muller Parcel: The City of Madison Parks Commission will acquire approximately 13.6 acres of land, for lake protection and outdoor recreation purposes, on the north shore of Lake Mendota, adjacent to property they already own. This parcel acquisition is consistent with the 1981 Cherokee Long-Range Open Space Plan (1981) which designated this land as high priority for acquisition. The land will be developed as bicycle/pedestrian/jogging and hiking trails, preservation of a scenic Lake Mendota overlook, natural woodlands and Indian burial mounds. City Of Madison: Acq-Lake Mendota James Madison Park Acquisition- Hoover Property: The City of Madison Parks Division proposes to acquire the property at 628 East Gorham Street, adjacent to James Madison Park to expand the park for passive recreation and for lake protection. City Of Middleton: Lmi-Pheasant Branch Watershed - In Lake Mendota Priority Watersh: The City of Middleton will contract with the U.S. Geological Survey to monitor and model the surface and groundwater flow within a portion of the Pheasant Branch watershed to locate effective combination of storm water treatment and control sites within the North Fork to mitigate the impacts of urbanization on the quality and quantity of water reaching Lake Mendota. Activities of the project include developing a surface and groundwater model based on existing data, collecting various field data for model inputs (including monitoring precipitation and flow discharge) refine the model and calibrate it to field measurements, calculate present and future pollution loads, and conduct analyses to accomplish the project objectives. Deliverables include: a report summarizing the project work, results and recommendations, maps showing recharge areas, hydrologfical sensitive sites, and the final calibrated computer model.

Columbia County: Lmi-Tmdl Development-Phase Ii-Park Lake: Columbia County Land and Water Conservation Department will conduct phase 2 of its TMDL development program for Park Lake. This phase will focus on continued monitoring along with the use of a graduate student to conduct water quality modeling to allow for final development of a TMDL for Park Lake, a 303(d) listed lake. The objectives of this study are to quantify P export from the watershed, and link water quality with nutrient loss from the land. Project deliverables include 1) monitoring of wetland effectiveness by measuring upstream and downstream flow and concentration; 2) Field-scale Snap-Plus and watershed-scale modeling; 3) simulating water quality changes caused by wetlands in this watershed using Army Corp PRE-WET model; 4) continuation of water quality monitoring/data collection along with targeting water sample collection adjacent to wetlands; 5) information/education efforts throughout project; and 6) compilation, documentation, and recommendations of findings. Dane County Parks: Aulik Acquisition-Patrick Marsh: Dane County will acquire acreage within Patrick Marsh, a DNR and Dane County project area that is identified in both the Land Legacy Report and the Dane County Parks and Open Space Plan. The Aulik property is approximately 11.6 acres along the southern shore of Patrick Marsh. The acquisition of this property will protect and enhance this natural resource site.

Village Of Mazomanie: Lmi-Lake Marion Family Recreational Fishery: The Village of Mazomanie will complete a large, multi-faceted lake restoration project on Lake Marion by installing an access sign at the boat landing, installing an aeration system, stocking fish, placing habitat structures on the bed, and reconfiguring and restoring large lengths of shoreline consistent with department recommendations. The boat landing access sign will explicitly reflect the Village ordinance allowing non-motorized boat use of the lake. Current steep shorelines will be graded to provide a healthy diversity of habitat, dead trees will be introduced and anchored to shore, and trees, shrubs and understory natives will be planted. Water quality will be monitored to track lake improvements. Project updates will be shared via social media, press releases, public meetings, and community volunteer workdays and celebration. Hydrodynamics: Dane County Land and Water Resources Department proposes to subcontract to the UW-Madison Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering an integrated research effort to understand the sediment dynamics in order to plan a restoration approach. Monitoring and modeling of water flow, wave characteristics, and sediment dynamics will be done. The resulting data will be used to evaluate methods to stabilize sediments and improve water clarity in this lake and downstream waters. A high-resolution bathymetric map and a sediment profile map will be created. Partners include Town of Westport, USGS and City of Madison.

Dane County: Restoring Cherokee Lake-Carp Telemetry: Dane County Land and Water Resources Department proposes to subcontract to the UW-Madison Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering an integrated research effort to understand the sediment dynamics in order to plan a restoration approach. Dane County: Lake Mendota Storm Event Monitoring (Usgs) Phosphorus Budget: Storm-event monitoring to determine present phosphorus loadings and a phosphorus budget for Lake Mendota. Phosphorus loading will be determined through continuous flow gauging stations located at the Yahara River at the Windsor Golf Course, the SpringHarbor storm sewer in the City of Madison, and Pheasant Branch Creek in the City of Middleton. Samples collected year-round by USGS personnel at the Yahara River station and at least one of the other two stations to be anlayzed for total P and totalreactive P. Phosphorus loading from the third site will be estimated if funding constraints prevent actual sampling. Monitoring and information will be coordinated with DNR Bureau of Research and UW, which are currently conducting in-lake studies ofLake Mendota. USGS is providing 50% matching funds, local funding support is being provided by the cities of Madison and Middleton. Dane County's contribution will exceed $3,333. Information will be disseminated to the public by entire report mailings,summary report mailings. Project results will be reposited at the Dane County Regional Planning Commission and DNR-Southern District.

Natural Heritage Land Trust: Lake Mendota/Token Creek Watershed Study: The Dane County Natural Heritage Foundation proposes to collect hydrological, biological, and chemical information on the Token Creek watershed to develop a "water atlas" for land use and water resource planning and decision making. The atlas will include a summary of flow rates and water quality for the watershed both under current conditions and projected conditions based on future developement scenarios with and without the implementation of management measures to maintain spring flow and protect the riparian environment.

Dane County: Lake Mendota Quant. Of Soilids Loading From Const.: Dane County Land Conservation Department proposes to quantify total solids loading from two residential construction sites and one commercial construction site during all phases of construction. Data will be collected prior to construction, during construction, and after final landscaping so that a complete time-series of solids loading will be obtained. Photographic documentary will occur during all phases.

City Of Middleton: Mendota Middleton Lake Rehabilitation Plan: The City of Middleton will: study the silting-in of the mouth of Pheasant Branch Creek where it enters in to Lake Mendota: update recent watershed studies to identify sediment sources, critical areas, and sensitive areas; involve the public in supporting best management practices to reduce future sedimentation; prepare a plan for dredging the area; assess the fishery; and involve the public in identifying opportunities to improve public access for fishing. City Of Middleton: Lakeview Park Stormwater Treatment: Project will study the channel leading to an outlet on the lake where sediment is accumulating, the outfall and inventory the system. This will help evaluate and make recommendations for stormwater treatment alternatives to reduce pollutant loading to the lake.

Dane County: Preparation Of Apm Plan--Lake Mendota: Aquatic plant and substrate surveys will be conducted, followed by evaluation of changes over time to develop or modify APM plans for these waters.

Clean Lakes Alliance: Yahara Clean 3.0 - Lake Mendota: The Clean Lakes Alliance is sponsoring a project to update the previous Yahara CLEAN watershed plan for Lake Mendota with the following goals: reconvene planning parters to a) update the 2012 watershed plan; b) include a timeline for achievement of specific goals, identify resource gaps, make recommendations on communication to the public, evaluate funding improvements, and after department review of draft survey, conduct a social survey to assess attitudes and behaviors; and c) create a partnership compact to formally adopt the plan with defined roles and expectations. Public input opportunities will be provided. Project deliverables include an updated watershed nutrient reduction plan including outreach and funding recommendations that can be formally adopted by Yahara CLEAN partners. Specific project conditions: The department must review a draft social survey instrument prior to the survey being finalized and disseminated.

Windsor Area Lake P & R District: Lake Windsor Watershed Data Collection & Sediment Study: Mapping of watershed boundaries. Mapping of land use and land cover along with slopes, soils and rainfall data. Data to be used with DNR sediment delivery model if available. One soil sample each to be taken from lake and watershed. Samples to beanalyzed for: particle size, total Kjeldahl N, P, N, K, Ca, C1, Mg, Na, pH SO4, and SDWA pesticides and herbicides. Water chemistry sampling to include one sample right after ice-out in the spring at a depth of 2-3 feet. Sample to be analyzed for: NO2NO3, total Kjeldahl N, dissolved P, total P, Ca, C1, Mg, Na, K, pH, dissolved solids, SO4, and SDWA pesticides and herbicides. Water quality analysis to be conducted by the State Lab or Hygiene. Water quality sampling will attempt to determine cause ofrecent fish kills. Estimates of volume and characteristics of incoming sediment will be made and recommendations developed to reduce erosion from high erosion producing areas. Recommendations will be made on ways to trap sediment and nutrients.Information will be distributed to the public by newsletter mailings, public meetings, local newspaper articles, and TV spots (Madison). Dane County: Development Of A Calibrated Yahara Lakes Reservior Routing Model: Dane County will work with the United States Geological Survey to develop a calibrated Yahara Lakes Reservoir routing model which will be capable of simulating lake levels and flows through the full range of conditions calibrated to historical records.

City Of Middleton: Lakeview Park Stormwater Treatment: Project will study the channel leading to an outlet on the lake where sediment is accumulating, the outfall and inventory the system. This will help evaluate and make recommendations for stormwater treatment alternatives to reduce pollutant loading to the lake.

Dane County: Preparation Of Apm Plan--Lake Mendota: Aquatic plant and substrate surveys will be conducted, followed by evaluation of changes over time to develop or modify APM plans for these waters.

Dane County: Restoring Cherokee Lake- Sed. Hydrodynamics: Dane County Land and Water Resources Department proposes to subcontract to the UW-Madison Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering an integrated research effort to understand the sediment dynamics in order to plan a restoration approach. Monitoring and modeling of water flow, wave characteristics, and sediment dynamics will be done. The resulting data will be used to evaluate methods to stabilize sediments and improve water clarity in this lake and downstream waters. A high-resolution bathymetric map and a sediment profile map will be created. Partners include Town of Westport, USGS and City of Madison.

Dane County: Restoring Cherokee Lake-Carp Telemetry: Dane County Land and Water Resources Department proposes to subcontract to the UW-Madison Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering an integrated research effort to understand the sediment dynamics in order to plan a restoration approach. Carp movement within the lake will be monitored via telemetry tracking through a sub-contract with UW-Madison Center for Limnology, which will help determine when and where carp might be vulnerable to removal efforts as part of the overall restoration project. A final report with recommendations for restoration of Cherokee Lake will be produced and shared widely.

Clean Lakes Alliance: Yahara Clean 3.0 - Lake Mendota: The Clean Lakes Alliance is sponsoring a project to update the previous Yahara CLEAN watershed plan for Lake Mendota with the following goals: reconvene planning parters to a) update the 2012 watershed plan; b) include a timeline for achievement of specific goals, identify resource gaps, make recommendations on communication to the public, evaluate funding improvements, and after department review of draft survey, conduct a social survey to assess attitudes and behaviors; and c) create a partnership compact to formally adopt the plan with defined roles and expectations. Public input opportunities will be provided. Project deliverables include an updated watershed nutrient reduction plan including outreach and funding recommendations that can be formally adopted by Yahara CLEAN partners. Specific project conditions: The department must review a draft social survey instrument prior to the survey being finalized and disseminated.

Dane County: Evaluation Of Floating Bog Initiative As Fish Habitat: Dane County Land & Water Conservation Department will monitor small, non-game fish that may be utilizing the Floating Bog Interceptor structures in Cherokee Marsh, Dane County. Cherokee Marsh, a key estuary of Lake Mendota, has been the subject of much chemistry monitoring. Carp tend to dominate the limnetic zone, but no studies have examined whether remnant populations of small fish may still be living in the lake. If they are, they are likely near the FBI\2019s. This monitoring effort will investigate this. The nearshore fish are important indicators of lake health and water quality, and this evaluation will assist lake managers in ongoing efforts to improve the Yahara Chain of Lakes. Information will be shared with the department, Friends of Cherokee Marsh, and the University, as well as posted on the Dane County website.
