DANE COUNTY: Post-NPS Farm Practice Inventory Update-Lk Mendota Watershed

Purpose

Dane County Lakes and Watershed Commission proposes to complete an inventory of farming practices that exist now, after the Priority Watershed Project has been completed in the watershed of Lake Mendota, Dane County. This inventory will help Dane County staff and other decision-makers understand the progress made by the PWP implementation, identify changes in the basin that increase pollutant loading, and target areas needing improved management practices, all to ultimately reduce nutrient loading to Lake Mendota. The project activities will fund the UW-Extension to: 1. Develop a survey, 2. Develop a list of survey participants, 3. Conduct 82 on-farm interviews, and 4. Analyze survey data and summarize in the final report. Deliverables for this grant include a published report of the survey analysis with the raw data. The DNR will be provided with both a paper copy and an editable electronic copy of the final report. The project results will be available upon request from the UW-Extension, and shared with City of Madison, DNR, DATCP, and Dane County.
