Project updates will be shared with the W.O.W. membership at their annual banquet. Project deliverables include annual status reports of project progress. In addition to a short description of the work accomplished within a year, the annual status reports will include before and after treatment photos of 4 established sites with the same viewpoint, 2 for each of the 2 species, to demonstrate visibly how the populations are responding to treatment; and a map of survey results. Specific project conditions: Herbicide treatments must be done in a timely manner (every year, during the active growing season), and following current department permit conditions including public notice requirements. These permits would be issued each year. A draft of the final report including maps and all data collected about target plant abundance, in .pdf format, should be submitted for department comment prior to finalization.

The project will focus on reducing the populations of invasive cattail and non-native phragmites located on the property.

Project final deliverables include: 1) Annual maps of herbicide treatment areas, hand-cutting area, biomass removal areas and any new invasive species present 2) Before/after photos of herbicide treatment and hand-cutting areas 3) Records of water levels during water control operations 4) Boot brush installation records and photos 5) Volunteer time records 6) Annual reports summarizing activities and control progress 7) Final Report

Specific project activities include: 1) Fall herbicide treatments of cattail and phragmites 2) Summer hand-cutting of cattails in hard to reach and sensitive areas below water, when possible 3) Utilize water control structure to fluctuate water levels to stress plants, when possible 4) Remove dead non-native biomass via burns and cutting 4) Collect and disperse native seed 5) Monitor for effectiveness of treatment and presence of new invasive plants 6) Educate visitors to the property and install four boot brush stations at public access points on property 7)Maintain access to invasive plant stands and firebreaks

Beaver Dam Lake Improvement Association: Hlk-Beaver Dam Healthy Lake: Beaver Dam Lake District will implement best practices described in Wisconsin\2019s 2014-2017 Healthy Lakes Implementation Plan. Practices include: 350 ft2 native plantings, rain gardens, rock infiltration practices, and diversion practices on 5 lakeshore properties, including the City of Beaver Dam\2019s Edgewater Park.
The best practices require a contract to remain in effect for 10 years and must include minimum operation and maintenance requirements and data collection as described in grant condition #17. If best practice(s) are implemented on land owned by the grant Sponsor, this Lake Protection Grant Agreement serves as the contract. If best practice(s) are implemented on land other than the sponsor\2019s, a contract between the sponsor and landowner that abides by grant condition #16 is required.
The Department may require re-payment of project installation costs if the best practice is disturbed or removed. The Sponsor and/or the Department may perform site inspections and/or monitoring to ensure project success.

Dane County Parks: Acq-Fish And Mud Lakes-Marx Acquisition: The Marx property has already been purchased by Dane County. The property will protect the majority of the Mud Lake shoreline, which is connected to Fish Lake, a very important resource in NW Dane County. This land is adjacent to other property already purchased by the County. In five years, the property will be converted from row cropping to natural drainage patterns and natural vegetation to encourage wildlife and promote water quality benefits.

Dane County: Acq-Indian Lake - Matz Acquisition: Dane County Parks will acquire 40.23 acres located adjacent to Indian Lake. The acquisition will prevent land use development and maintain a buffer of upland and wetland to filter contaminants from entering Indian Lake. City Of Middleton: Lmi-Pheasant Branch Watershed - In Lake Mendota Priority Watersh: The City of Middleton will contract with the U.S. Geological Survey to monitor and model the surface and groundwater flow within a portion of the Pheasant Branch watershed to locate effective combination of storm water treatment and control sites within the North Fork to mitigate the impacts of urbanization on the quality and quantity of water reaching Lake Mendota. Activities of the project include developing a surface and groundwater model based on existing data, collecting various field data for model inputs (including monitoring precipitation and flow discharge) refine the model and calibrate it to field measurements, calculate present and future pollution loads, and conduct analyses to accomplish the project objectives. Lake Ripley Management District: Acq-Lake Ripley Land Acquisition - Probst Property: Lake Ripley Management District will acquire about 99 acres of croplands and wetlands that help make up the only inlet to Lake Ripley. The acquisition project consists of two parts; 1) about 63 1/2 acres of farmed/wetland and 2) about 35 1/2 acres of drained wetland. This land will contribute to water quality improvements in Lake Ripley by stopping sedimentation from cropland in a soon to be restored wetland.

Lake Ripley Management District: Acq-Lake Ripley-Johnson Acquisition: The Lake Ripley Management District will purchase a 65.926-acre parcel of the James & Jane Johnson property in the Town of Oakland, Jefferson County. The property will link the 100-acre Lake Ripley Preserve to 40 acres of DNR-owned wetlands along Lake Ripley's only inlet. This purchase would also ensure the protection, in perpetuity, of a critical stream corridor and wetland/floodplain complex within the headwaters region of Lake Ripley. By purchasing this property, Lake Ripley Management District will be able to establish protective conservation buffers; gain access to additional wetland and stream areas for purchases of protection and restoration; and will preserve one of the watershed's few remaining woodlots.

Lake Ripley Management District: Res-Hoard-Curtis Scout Camp Lkshore Rest.: Lake Ripley Management District proposes to undertake a shoreline stabilization and restoration project at the Hoard-Curtis Scout Camp shoreline on Lake Ripley, Jefferson County. They will install riprap off-shore of the existing shoreline (DNR permit already issued), plant aquatic plants inland of that riprap, and do upland seeding (to supplement previously completed plug plantings) after invasive weed and brush removal. The deliverable for this project will consist of a final written report describing the major steps in the project, supplemented with photo documentation of the work in progress and the final, complete project. Columbia County: Lmi-Tmdl Development-Phase Ii-Park Lake: Columbia County Land and Water Conservation Department will conduct phase 2 of its TMDL development program for Park Lake. This phase will focus on continued monitoring along with the use of a graduate student to conduct water quality modeling to allow for final development of a TMDL for Park Lake, a 303(d) listed lake. The objectives of this study are to quantify P export from the watershed, and link water quality with nutrient loss from the land. Project deliverables include 1) monitoring of wetland effectiveness by measuring upstream and downstream flow and concentration; 2) Field-scale Snap-Plus and watershed-scale modeling; 3) simulating water quality changes caused by wetlands in this watershed using Army Corp PRE-WET model; 4) continuation of water quality monitoring/data collection along with targeting water sample collection adjacent to wetlands; 5) information/education efforts throughout project; and 6) compilation, documentation, and recommendations of findings. Dane County Parks: Aulik Acquisition-Patrick Marsh: Dane County will acquire acreage within Patrick Marsh, a DNR and Dane County project area that is identified in both the Land Legacy Report and the Dane County Parks and Open Space Plan. The Aulik property is approximately 11.6 acres along the southern shore of Patrick Marsh. The acquisition of this property will protect and enhance this natural resource site.

Village Of Mazomanie: Lmi-Lake Marion Family Recreational Fishery: The Village of Mazomanie will complete a large, multi-faceted lake restoration project on Lake Marion by installing an access sign at the boat landing, installing an aeration system, stocking fish, placing habitat structures on the bed, and reconfiguring and restoring large lengths of shoreline consistent with department recommendations. The boat landing access sign will explicitly reflect the Village ordinance allowing non-motorized boat use of the lake. Current steep shorelines will be graded to provide a healthy diversity of habitat, dead trees will be introduced and anchored to shore, and trees, shrubs and understory natives will be planted.
