Website that allows for viewing of the citizen lake monitoring data from sites around Lakes Mendota, Monona, Kegonsa, Waubesa, and Wingra. It is updated as soon as citizen monitoring data is uploaded to the website by monitors who sample at beaches and piers around the lakes.
Clean Lakes Alliance (CLA) strives to improve the quality of the lakes, streams, and wetlands of the Yahara River watershed by building partnerships with diverse stakeholders and raising awareness of the challenges facing our public waterways. We see a future in which everyone realizes that our lakes are the center of our community.
Grant Awarded
Clean Lakes Alliance will develop a website for mobile-phone use particularly by users of the Madison Lakes to get up-to-date information about lake water quality in the nearshore area, which has been collected and reported by an existing volunteer and municipal lifeguard network. This will allow the public to be better informed of risks and opportunities for lake recreation. They will deliver a user-friendly website that displays real-time information about public beaches and near-shore waters, and a final report with recommendations for improving monitoring, partner collaboration, data entry, user-interface, and information sharing. They will also hold meetings with various local entities to evaluate the program and strengthen partnerships. Data summaries will be shared with participants, researchers and other interested people. At least one community presentation will be given at the end of the season.
