Monitor Targeted Area
The purpose of this project is to collect water quality and flow data to be used in developing a SWAT model for the Lake Pepin TMDL. Lake Pepin is currently on Minnesotas 303d list for turbidity and phosphorus and is expected to eventually be added to the Wisconsin 303d list. Stakeholder and technical support groups have been formed and have been meeting for several years to develop a TMDL that will have significant implications for Wisconsin. Monitoring includes a USGS flow monitoring station and collection of water chemistry samples. Samples are being collected by a local volunteer following TMDL monitoring technical guidance (WDNR 2001) for two years, including bi-weekly sampling and storm chasing.
