BURNETT COUNTY LAND CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT: Burnett County AIS Prevention and Education Project

Purpose

Burnett County is sponsoring a one-year AIS project/position including education & outreach at public events and lake meetings; baseline monitor and map multiple species of AIS; train CBCW volunteers and staff and inspect watercraft; develop prevention, rapid response and APM plans; support rapid response projects; and continue its purple loosestrife control program. Project deliverables: 1) Project report/assessment of education & outreach activities, monitoring activities and data collected, a description of the extent of AIS in Burnett County, detail on control measures, prevention and AIS plans; 2) Updated data (species, GPS locations, estimated infestation size) and GIS maps of AIS populations; 3) Aquatic plant (i.e. point-intercept method) survey results for at least one lake/year; 4) APM Plan for at least one lake/year; 5) Rapid response plans or plan technical support for new AIS discoveries, including the Trade Lakes; 6) Purple loosestrife release site locations and management summary; 7) CBCW data collection summary; including data required by the CBCW program; data must be entered in the statewide database; 8) Examples of educational/outreach materials developed. Special Conditions: 1) WDNR\2019s Aquatic Plant Management in Wisconsin guidance must be followed for point-intercept survey monitoring and aquatic plant management plan development; 2) The WDNR Aquatic Plant Management Strategy (2007) will be utilized in Plan development; 3) Draft public surveys must be reviewed and approved by the DNR before being initiated. Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps and digital images, must be submitted to the DNR in a format specified by the Lake Coordinator.
