BAYFIELD COUNTY: LCO-Bayfield County Lake Protection Implementation Project

Purpose

Bayfield County will conduct a project to improve the implementation the lake classification and protection system, that was adopted by the county in 1999, through the use of increased public education, enhanced technology, and review and update of shoreland ordinances. This project will involve the following elements and deliverables: * Conduct a series of educational meetings with all county municipalities and the tribe describing new procedures, materials, etc.. * Conduct a minimum of 5 meetings throughout the county introducing the new electronic procedures involving; Land Use permits, Septic Maintenance, and a Voluntary Compliance program. * Review existing ordinances for problem areas, etc. and development recommendations for improvements for the county land use and zoning committees. * Development and distribution of brochures for; Shoreland mitigation and restoration procedures, Online permit processing, and Self-reporting requirements. * Implementation of an electronic permit monitoring system. * Implementation of a voluntary compliance program. * Hiring of a contractor and part-time employee to implement grant project. * Preparation of a Final Report covering all aspects of grant project and accomplishments. The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of all project products and periodic reports on the progress of the project. The project results will be disseminated to the public by newsletter(s), or public meeting(s), and/or local newspaper article(s).
