RUSK COUNTY: LCO-Rusk County Lake & Stream Classification Project

Purpose

Rusk County proposes to develop a countywide lake and stream classification system and management plan. The project will classify waters based on their vulnerability/sensitivity to degradation from shoreland development and other human uses and propose measures for their protection. Specifically, the county will: 1) form a diverse advisory committee to oversee and guide the project; 2) classify waters following the method described in the project proposal and DNR guidance; 3) conduct 60 - 100 soil test and 10 lake bed sediment cores; 4) record the above results in a data base and related GIS mapping products; 5) review shoreland zoning and other county ordinances and recommend changes based on the project findings for improving provisions for lake protection - standards for fertilizer application, stormwater runoff and nutrient management will be considered; 6) implement a informational and educational program for involving the public in the project and assisting the public in accessing the results of the project via electronic and printed media and that includes development of a guidebook to understanding the Rusk County Shoreland Ordinance and classification system as well as a training session for land development and realty professionals. A final report in PDF format summarizing the results of the project as well as copies of databases, maps, GIS files, guidebooks, ordinances or any other products resulting from the project shall be provided to the Department for review prior to final payment.
