Purpose
The Land Conservation Departments from Waushara, Adams and Portage Counties propose to retain a specialist to facilitate the management of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in the three-county area during the period 2006 - 2007. The project elements and deliverables are specified in this group's AIS Control Grant Application, dated 7.31.06, which names Waushara Co as the Applicant. The project includes training county staff & lake volunteers in methods for conducting milfoil weevil population surveys; hosting "Clean Boats, Clean Waters" workshops; hosting "Demonstration Field Day" workshops to exhibit monitoring methods for early detection & AIS control methods; assessing current AIS presence in lakes & identifying priority problem species; providing training on EWM identification & hand-pulling; investigating new AIS sightings & collecting specimens; & assisting lake groups in seeking funding for AIS prevention/control projects. AIS monitoring results will be submitted to DNR's Surface Water Integrated Monitoring System (SWIMS). Quarterly progress reports & a final report summarizing the project will be provided to DNR. Representatives from the Waushara, Adams and Portage Co Land Conservation Depts & their consultant will meet with a DNR project overview team at the initiation of the project to review its implementation strategy.
If consultant is to provide the final report, it is recommended that the Grantee provide the DNR AIS Coordinator with a draft for comment on report adequacy prior to making final payment to the consultant. DNR will be provided both paper & electronic .pdf copies of the final report along with, or prior to, submission of grantee's final payment request. If watercraft inspection is conducted as part of the project then those records will be entered into the State's online Watercraft Inspection Database. Any publications produced as part of the project will incorporate the "Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers!"\00BF brand.
