Marathon County is sponsoring a project to establish a Community Capacity Advisory Team to explore partnerships that promote understanding of land use and water quality concerns for its eastern Lakes and the Fenwood Creek Watershed. Project activities and deliverables include: 1) Team formation, 2) partner potential assessment, 3) community capacity planning, 4) development of outreach materials and forums, 5) models and templates to track progress, 6) shoreland restoration demonstration project, 7) educational signage, 8) rain gardens, 9) creation of shoreline access, 10) hire Shoreline Protection Technician, 11) maintenance of plantings, 12) assist shoreline property owners with restoration plans, securing plants, etc., and 13) final report.
Lake Management Plan Implementation
Portage County will implement best practices described in Wisconsin's 2014-2017 Healthy Lakes Implementation Plan. Best practices will be designed and installed according to the Healthy Lakes fact sheets and technical guidance. Activities include: implementation of fish sticks, native plantings, and diversion practices, on 9 properties. The best practices require a contract to remain in effect for 10 years and must include minimum operation and maintenance requirements and data collection as described in grant condition #16.
