Purpose
Douglas Co. Land & Water Conservation Dept. is sponsoring an countywide AIS project and position to do the following: create a network to support and streamline AIS prevention and control efforts and link to other planning efforts; inventory waterbodies for AIS; develop AIS tracking database with maps; provide AIS information/education outreach; expand project into a comprehensive county Lake Protection Plan. The project final product will include a countywide strategic plan that integrates the goals, objectives, and activities of interested parties into a manageable approach to deal with AIS in the county.
Deliverables include: 1) Strategic plan to monitor & prevent new AIS infestations & prevent the spread of existing infestations; a list of planning participants, comments/input received, meetings & attendance; a description for how success will be measured (i.e. measurable goals); 2). Report/assessment of education & outreach, monitoring, & other data collected including a description of the extent of AIS in the county; 3) GIS maps of current AIS infestations; 4) Launching/boating use pattern survey results; 5) Rapid response & purple loosestrife biocontrol templates; 6) Information & education meeting & workshop summary. Information required as part of an existing I&E program (e.g. Clean Boats Clean Waters) must be entered in the statewide database (if applicable); 7) County-wide network/resource list, including lake contacts, monitors, volunteers, etc.; 8) Examples of educational/outreach materials; 9) Summary & examples of press releases, newsletter articles, & other media contacts.
Special Conditions: New identification of aquatic invasive species must be immediately reported to the Department.
