Habitat Restoration - Shoreland
30445110
Grant Awarded
Bayfield Co. is sponsoring a lakewide restoration project in the Iron River, Delta area lakes with emphasis on the Pike Chain including shoreline restorations; runoff and infiltration best management practices (BMPs); in-lake habitat improvement; technical/implementation assistance; BMP cost-share assistance; enrollment payments; promotion and education. The goal is to restore 3500 feet of shoreline frontage. County-owned Twin Bear Park will be a demonstration site with shoreline and in-lake habitat restoration, campsite consolidations and removal of impervious areas and structures within the buffer.
All shoreline restorations using grant funds for implementation must have a Department approved restrictive covenant on the parcel that permanently establishes the vegetative buffer. Restorations will follow NR 191.24(3) standards unless mutually agreed to in writing with the regional lake coordinator before implementation. Parcels with runoff/infiltration BMPs other than shoreline restoration will have a maintenance, operation, and protection plan specified in a ten-year contract.
