Little Popple River Watershed Assessment - NOR_16_CMP14

Purpose

We will review files and collect biological information (fish, bugs), qualitative habitat and temperature on 17 stream sites within the Little popple River watershed. Presently there is no recent monitoring information within the watershed and FM activities date back to the 1970's.

Objective

This work includes monitoring waters for the purposes of updating water body assessment status (i.e. future monitoring for 303(d) or ERW/ORW status), for making management recommendations, and updating water body and watershed narratives in WATERS. 17 sites will be visitied three times, each for reconn., fish and habitat, and macroinvertebrate sampling. Sites have been selected at the desktop level, but changes may have to be made due to field investigations during the reconnaissance stage.

Outcome

Possible future monitoring for 303d or ERW/ORW, HWI status, for making management recommendations, and updating water body and watershed narratives in WATERS. 1) 17 sites, TBD 2) 17 events in FY14-Reconn. 34 in FY 15 - fish/hab and bug collection 3) All sampling will be completed in the fall of 2014 4) 12-31-14 5) Don't know, depends on bug data from UWSP 6) SWIMS and the FMDB 7) Jim Klosiewski (LTEs on the project)

This Targeted Watershed Assessment (TWA) will address needs for baseline water quality monitoring of the Little Popple River Watershed. In 2014, Water Action Volunteers stream monitors were asked to assist in the monitoring process by collecting water samples. The TWA will hopefully provide enough information in order to evaluate the watershed for total phosphorus levels, update water body assessment status (i.e. future monitoring for 303(d)), make management recommendations, and update water body and watershed narratives in WATERS.
