NORTHWOODS LAND TRUST, INC.: LMI-Price County Private Shorelands Protection Project

Purpose

The Northwoods Land Trust, Inc. is sponsoring a project focusing on protecting natural shore land frontage of 500+ feet or greater in Price County. Project activities include: 1) Price County shore land property owner identification using GIS; 2) Information packet/direct mail campaign \2013 provided to all lake shore land owners in Forest County with 500+ feet of natural shore land frontage; 3) Public Awareness Campaign \2013 includes press releases/PSA\2019s/presentations; 4) Price County Conservation Plan; 5) Property owner contacts in Price County; 6) Minimum of 2 conservation easements or other land transactions. Project deliverables include: 1) Copies of color maps of each of the towns in Price County to illustrate the parcels/landowners identified with 500+ feet of existing natural shore land frontage; 2) Copies of newspaper articles, press releases, psa\2019s, and newsletter articles; 3) Copy of Conservation Plan for Price County and needs assessment for priority land acquisitions; 4) Generalized listing of landowner follow-up contacts by program type; 5) Copies of approved and filed conservation easements, deeds from land donations or other land transactions, and registry program property plans/assessments. Specific project conditions: Final report needs Dept review and approval. WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) copy of final report and news releases, GIS maps, and the Price County Conservation Plan and needs assessment.

The Northwoods Land Trust Board of Directors adopted an updated 2016-2020 Five-Year Strategic Plan in December 2016. One of the goals of that plan was to prepare a Conservation Plan for Price County, Wisconsin, as the next phase planning project that would eventually include the remaining counties in the land trustÂ’s service territory. Funding for this conservation plan was provided starting in 2013 by the Wisconsin DNR Lake Protection Grant project #LPT 465-14, Price County Private Shorelands Protection Project.
