Silver and Dakin Creek Watershed Assessment - NER_03_CMP14

Purpose

This project would assess the water quality condition of the Silver Creek (WBIC 146800) and Dakin Creek (WBIC 146700) Watersheds and determine if portions of the watersheds can be placed on the 303d impaired waters list in 2018. An LTE and biologist would collect total phosphorus and TSS samples six times between May and October 2014 at 11 locations, 9 macroinvertebrate samples in September or October 2014, 8 wadeable fish and qualitative habitat surveys in July 2014, and continuous temperature monitoring would be conducted at 12 locations from May through October 2014.

Objective

This assessment would provide data for determining the water quality of the Silver Creek (WBIC 146700) and Dakin Creek (WBIC 146800) Watersheds. This assessment would collect total phosphorus samples and biological data to determine if portions of the watershed could be placed on the 303d impaired waters list in 2018. An LTE and biologist would collect total phosphorus and TSS samples 6 times between May and October 2014 at 11 locations: Stations 10037918, 10040834, 203080, 10021299, 10015911, 10016330, 10041510, 10041509, 10041508, 10041507, & 10041506. We would collect macroinvertebrate data at 9 locations: Stations 10016330, 10015911, 10040834, 10041506, 10041507, 10041508, 10041509, 10041510, & 10037918. Fish and qualitative habitat surveys would be conducted at 8 locations: Stations 10016330, 10015911, 10041506, 10041507, 10041508, 10041509, 10041510, & 10037918. Additionally, we would collect continuous temperature data at 10 locations in the Silver and Dakin Creek Watersheds from May through October 2014: Stations 10016330, 10021299, 10015911, 10041506, 10041507, 10041508, 10041509, 10041510, 10037918, & 203080. The bug collection will occur in fall 2014. All bug collection data will be uploaded into SWIMS by UWSP by Fall 2015. All fish and qualitative habitat data will be entered into the FMDB by 12/31/2014. All phosphorus monitoring data will be uploaded into SWIMS by the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene by 12/31/2014. All continuous temperature monitoring data will be uploaded into SWIMS by 12/31/2014. Final report will be written by 12/31/2015.

Outcome

This project would contribute water quality information for a Watershed Plan on the Silver Creek Watershed and identify portions of the watershed which can be placed on the 2018 Impaired Waters List. The water quality data will be shared with other interested agencies and groups, such as USGS, Green Lake County LWCD, Green Lake Association, NRCS, and Green Lake Sanitary District.
