Overview
Jersey City Flowage, in the Lower Tomahawk River Watershed, is a 422.83 acre lake that falls in Lincoln County. This lake is managed for fishing and swimming and is currently not considered impaired.

Source: 1982, Surface Water Resources of Lincoln County Jersey City Flowage, T35N, R6E, Sec. 28 Surface Acres = 432.9, Maximum Depth = 20 feet, Secchi Disc = 4 feet.
A soft water drainage lake (impoundment) on the Tomahawk River having slightly acid, light brown water of low transparency. The shoreline is 70 percent upland of mixed hardwoods and conifers, and 30 percent shrub-meadow wetland. The littoral zone is 45 percent sand, 40 percent muck, 10 percent rubble, and 5 percent gravel. Submergent vegetation in 50 percent of the lake is moderate in density, and emergent and floating vegetation are moderate in density in 20 percent of the basin. Fish species include walleye, muskellunge, northern pike, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, perch, bluegill, black crappie and rock bass. Migratory waterfowl use the lake on their spring and fall migrations. Beaver are also present. Public access without parking is possible from a town road and by way of navigable water via the Tomahawk River. There are 74 dwellings and 2 resorts on the shoreline. The impounding structure, which has a 15 foot head, is owned by Wisconsin Public Service Corporation and used to generate electricity.

Management Goals
Wisconsin's Water Quality Standards provide qualitative and quantitative goals for waters that are protective of Fishable, Swimmable conditions [Learn more]. Waters that do not meet water quality standards are considered impaired and restoration actions are planned and carried out until the water is once again fishable and swimmable
Management goals can include creation or implementation of a Total Maximum Daily Load analysis, a Nine Key Element Plan, or other restoration work, education and outreach and more. If specific recommendations exist for this water, they will be displayed below online.
Monitoring
Monitoring the condition of a river, stream, or lake includes gathering physical, chemical, biological, and habitat data. Comprehensive studies often gather all these parameters in great detail, while lighter assessment events will involve sampling physical, chemical and biological data such as macroinvertebrates. Aquatic macroinvertebrates and fish communities integrate watershed or catchment condition, providing great insight into overall ecosystem health. Chemical and habitat parameters tell researchers more about human induced problems including contaminated runoff, point source dischargers, or habitat issues that foster or limit the potential of aquatic communities to thrive in a given area. Land use in the watershed is primarily forest (58.70%), wetland (29.50%) and a mix of open (7.50%) and other uses (4.20%). This watershed has 107.64 stream miles, 5,219.67 lake acres and 23,295.39 wetland acres.
