Grant Awarded
The Bayfield Regional Conservancy is sponsoring a project in the South Shore streams watersheds educating and encouraging landowners to undertake activities to protect watershed resources. Specific project tasks include: 1) Property owner identification using GIS technology to identify prioritized property owners; 2) Direct mail campaign to at least 500 landowners including an easy-to-follow information packet on voluntary land protection options; 3) Press releases and presentations at local organizations (example, town board meetings) to further raise landowner awareness; 4) Follow-up with high priority landowners through phone calls or additional informational material; 5) One-on-one site visits with landowners as needed to explain options including legal and technical assistance. Final deliverables include: 1) 1. Copies of color GIS maps of each watershed with digitized parcel maps to illustrate the high priority areas worked in; 2) A generalized listing of landowner follow-up contacts by program type. Names, addresses, and other identifiable information will not be included in the project report due to their confidential nature; 3) A copy of the presentation given at community organization meetings, and a list of the meetings where presented; 4) 4. Copies of press releases and the landowner information packet; 6) A listing and description of landowner actions taken as a result of outreach efforts.
