Activities involved with this project will include collection of water quality samples at 18 locations along the river, installation and collection of data from 7 water temperature monitors. Data collected will be used to identify problem areas and will also be used in the development of a long term management plan for the river.
Specific deliverables for this grant project will include:
a final report in the form of a management plan,
water quality monitoring data from the Environmental Task Foce Laboratory
The Department of Natural Resources will be provided with both a paper copy and an electronic copy of the final report.

Golden Sands Rc&D Council, Inc.: Plover River Water Quality Project #2: Analysis of samples from three events, two base flows and for fecal coliform at 18 sampling stations. Believe that additional sampling covering an entire year would produce data that would provide a more accurate and thorough understanding of the water quality of the Plover River. It is desirable to collect samples in accordance with the agricultural seasons; 1) Post planting but prior to emergence, 2) crops on, 3) post harvest and 4) spring law. The crops on and post harvest periods will be sampled with the current grant using funding for the two event and two base flow samples. Propose sampling for herbicides and pesticides at sites with elevated nutrient levels.

Village Of Plover: Little Plover River Enhancement Project - Feltz Ditch Fill\005c00a0: The Village of Plover, WI and the NRCS will fill an artificial drainage ditch to help restore river base flow and reduce peak runoff events by restoring wetland hydrology to a headwater wetland in the upper portion of the Little Plover River. Methods used will include filling in a 1,500 foot long agricultural ditch with old fill spoils deposited on a wetland, improving wetland connectivity to an existing pond, and restoring pasture vegetation on the filled ditch.
Specific project activities include: 1) fill 2500 feet of an artificial ditch, 2) remove fill from a wetland, 3) restore the functionality of a disturbed wetland, and 4) raise water table elevations and allow for natural groundwater discharge to the Little Plover River for cold water and steady flows.
Project final deliverables include: 1) Seeded and restore wet-mesic prairie over filled ditch, 2) install 3-strand fence according to NRCS Standards to keep cattle out of restored area until it has been stabilized, 3) Prevent woody species succession by ROTATIONAL GRAZING two-years after fill, 4) Continue to work with UWSP, and other partners, to improve the habitat along the stream corridor(s).
Specific conditions: 1) Obtain all permits before work commences 20 install all practices per NRCS Standards.
The specific objectives, activities, metrics, and deliverables for the listed activities are explicated in the application and supporting materials. This scope summarized proposed work but does not replace or supersede the information presented in those documents.
